Laterite road gravel, also spelt ferricrete. Nominal 12mm, binds down hard for drives and tracks.

Ferrocrete, also spelt ferricrete, is laterite road gravel carrying its own natural fines. We run it at a nominal 12mm, and it can be supplied from 7mm up to 18mm depending on the job.
Wet it down and roll it and those fines bind the stone into a firm, low dust running surface that sheds water, which is why it has been the country driveway and farm track material in WA for generations.

It weighs around 1.7 tonnes per cubic metre. A driveway 4 metres wide, 15 metres long compacted to 100mm needs about 6 cubic metres, roughly 10.2 tonnes. Use our calculator to check your own driveway.
