Our namesake. Screened -5mm Spearwood red sand for lawns, gardens and top dressing.

Spearwood red sand is the dune sand Perth's older suburbs are built on, carrying a touch of natural loam that plain grey sand lacks. We screen it to -5mm at Hope Valley so it compacts cleanly and holds moisture around plant roots.

Not sure how much you need? The volume calculator works out cubic metres and tonnes from your measurements and drops the result straight into a quote request. At 100mm deep, one tonne of spearwood red (-5mm) covers about 6.7 square metres.

We would rather you didn't. Spearwood red is scarce and we keep it for gardens and lawns. For site fill, building pads and trench backfill ask us for yellow fill sand instead. Ring the yard on 0409 490 292 and we will sort it out.
It works well as an underlay because it drains freely while still holding some moisture for young roots, and it rakes out level easily before turf is laid.
Around 50 to 100mm as an underlay. It drains freely while still holding enough moisture for young roots to take hold.
Red sand is natural Spearwood dune sand, screened to -5mm, with nothing added beyond the light loam it carries naturally. Lawn Mix is sand blended with recycled organic fines, built specifically as an underlay for new turf. If you're laying a whole new lawn, Lawn Mix is usually the one.
No. It's natural dune sand screened at our yard, nothing blended in. If you want organic matter through it, Soil Conditioner is 100 per cent composted green waste and is made to be dug through sandy soil.
