Spearwood, Hamilton Hill and Bibra Lake are established, built out suburbs close to Fremantle, well past the new estate stage and firmly into renovation, infill and commercial work. Spearwood gives its name to the yellow sand and limestone ground that runs down most of Perth's coastal strip, Hamilton Hill sits just south of it toward Coogee, and Bibra Lake carries both an older residential pocket and a sizeable commercial and industrial area around South Street. It's a longer run for us, about 22 to 30 minutes from Hope Valley, but a regular one.

The dune system that took its name from here

Spearwood dune sand, yellow sand over Tamala limestone, is named after this exact stretch of coast, and it's the same free draining, easy digging ground found across Hamilton Hill and most of Bibra Lake. Diggers move through the sand without much trouble before hitting limestone at depth, which often has to be broken up or carted off site rather than dug straight through, particularly for pools, retaining walls or deeper drainage work on the older, larger blocks common in this part of Cockburn. It's stable, well drained ground to build on, the rock underneath is the main thing a builder or excavator needs to plan around rather than fight.

Built out and renovating

Spearwood and Hamilton Hill were largely built through the 1960s to 1980s, so almost every job we deliver into these two suburbs now is renovation, subdivision infill or landscaping on an existing block rather than a new estate. Older quarter acre blocks are increasingly being split for a second dwelling or a small infill development, which brings its own steady demand for fill, roadbase and drainage stone on tight sites. Bibra Lake adds a different layer again, a residential pocket around the lake itself alongside a substantial commercial and light industrial area along South Street and Bibra Drive, home to some of Cockburn's bigger bulky goods and trade businesses.

Closer to Fremantle than our other runs

This is one of our longer regular deliveries, tracking north past Kwinana and Cockburn Central before turning toward the coast, but our drivers cover it often enough to know the older streets and the tighter infill sites well.

  • Kwinana Freeway to Rockingham Road, then local streets
  • Access via Phoenix Road or Rockingham Road depending on the suburb
  • Typically 22 to 30 minutes from our Hope Valley yard
  • Comfortable access for our tippers on established roads, careful loads on tighter infill sites

It's a corridor with narrower older streets and more parked cars than a new estate, so our drivers plan the approach to a tight Hamilton Hill block differently to an open Bibra Lake commercial yard.

What suits a renovation or infill job here

Soil conditioner and landscape mix are common orders for reviving older garden beds and lawns that have been in the same sandy ground for decades, digging organic matter through so it holds water again. Limestone base remains the standard driveway and crossover material, matching what's typically already under the block. On infill and subdivision sites, concrete roadbase and drainage stone handle access and soakwells for the second dwelling or new lot, and cream crushed brick is a popular, tidy finish for smaller courtyard gardens on subdivided blocks where there isn't much bed space left once the house and driveway are in.

Questions

Delivering to Spearwood, Hamilton Hill and Bibra Lake

Do you deliver to infill and subdivision sites in Spearwood and Hamilton Hill?

Yes, subdivision of older quarter acre blocks for a second dwelling is common here and we regularly deliver fill, roadbase and drainage stone to these tighter infill sites.

Why does my digger hit rock in Spearwood or Bibra Lake?

Both sit on Spearwood dune sand, yellow sand over limestone. Hitting rock a metre or so down is common, particularly for pools, retaining walls and deeper excavation, and it often needs to be carted off site.

Do you deliver to the commercial and industrial area around Bibra Lake?

Yes, the South Street and Bibra Drive commercial precinct is a regular delivery area for us, alongside the residential streets around the lake itself.

What driveway base matches an older Spearwood or Hamilton Hill home?

Limestone base is the standard local choice and matches what's usually already under the block. Concrete roadbase is a good alternative where extra strength is needed.

How long does delivery take from Hope Valley to Spearwood or Hamilton Hill?

Usually 22 to 30 minutes via the Kwinana Freeway and Rockingham Road, one of our longer regular runs but a route we cover often.
